THE FOUNDRY BOOKS is a general out-of-print and antiquarian book store located in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. The book store was started in June, 1995 by retired physician Dean Connors. Dean operated the bookstore until Spring 2002 when he turned operations over to Ken and Janet Wheaton. In May, 2004 Dean sold THE FOUNDRY BOOKS to Jim and Gayle Bull. We had operated Paper Mountain Books in Mineral Point for 13 years prior to purchasing THE FOUNDRY BOOKS. At last, we achieved our goal of owning, operating a bookstore and living in an old stone building in Mineral Point. Unfortunately, Jim did not live long enough to carry out all our goals and ambitions for THE FOUNDRY BOOKS. Although we carry a general stock, our particular interest is in Wisconsin history and literature and vintage children's books. We have books, maps and documents, plus a wide variety of pamphlets, broadsides, county histories, etc. of Wisconsin interest. We also carry books of Wisconsin poetry and Wisconsin fiction writers. Our name comes from the original use of the 1847 stone building that houses the book store, the first Lanyon Foundry. Lanyon crafted iron equipment for lead and zinc mining, transportation, etc. Over the years, the building has held a livery, a feed store, a communal crafts center, and a pottery shop.
